1. Job opening: Postdoc Position at Queen Mary University of London, the deadline for applications is 20th April 2025.

From: Christopher Chen, Queen Mary University of London, <christopher.chen at qmul.ac.uk>

Subject: Postdoc Position at Queen Mary University of London.

A postdoc position is available in Dr Christopher Chen’s research team at Queen Mary University of London. The team covers a range of topics in space, astrophysical, and plasma physics - from fundamental plasma processes and the role that they play across different systems, to applications in space weather modelling and forecasting, and uses a range of approaches - spacecraft observations, numerical simulations, plasma theory, and lab plasma experiments. We are looking for a researcher, whose expertise would complement the current team, to work on Dr Chen’s UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (FLF) project “Exploring New Regions of Space: Fundamentals and Impacts of Astrophysical Plasma Turbulence”, which aims to understand turbulence as a fundamental process in space/lab/astrophysics, the role it plays in controlling the dynamics of these systems, and modelling its effects, including space weather, in the heliosphere and more distant astrophysical plasmas. Therefore, we encourage applications from candidates with expertise in any of these areas and interest in getting involved in the others. This is a collaborative project, involving interlinking (and flexible) sub-projects, and international collaborations. The FLF programme also offers extensive dedicated career support for all team members.

The Space & Astrophysical Plasmas Group at QMUL currently has 18 members and covers a broad range of topics - fundamental processes such as turbulence / shocks / reconnection / instabilities / kinetics, system science such as heliospheric dynamics / coronal processes / magnetosphere dynamics, applied science in space weather modelling and prediction, and a range of approaches including involvement in space missions, large-scale numerical simulations, lab plasma experiments, and advanced machine learning techniques. Postdocs and students interact in a vibrant and supportive research environment.

For more information about this position and to apply, please see: https://qmul-jobs.tal.net/vx/mobile-0/appcentre-ext/brand-4/candidate/so/pm/1/pl/3/opp/5323-Postdoctoral-Research-Associ ate/en-GB

The deadline for applications is 20th April 2025 (late applications will not be considered). The start date is flexible, although the position is ready to be taken up immediately.

For informal enquiries please contact Dr Christopher Chen (christopher.chen at qmul.ac.uk).

2. Conference: Space Weather at the 6th COSPAR Symposium, 03-07 November 2025, the abstract submission deadline is imminent on 04 April 2025.

From: Mario Bisi, STFC UKRI, <mario.bisi at stfc.ac.uk>

Subject: Space Weather at the 6th COSPAR Symposium – 03-07 November 2025 – Nicosia, Cyprus.

I would like to draw your attention to the Space-Weather related sessions at the upcoming 6th COSPAR Symposium, 03-07 November 2025, taking place in Nicosia, Cyprus. The main website for information is here: https://www.cospar-assembly.org/symposia.php - details are being updated at regular intervals…

The full session details can he found here: https://www.cospar-assembly.org/admin/congress.php?congress=12, and the two sessions of interest are:

- D0.1 :” Existing and Future Solar and Heliospheric Missions for Heliophysics Sciences and Space Weather Applications”; and

- C0.1:” Multi-instrumental Approach as a Mitigation Strategy for Space Weather Hazard”.

Please note that the abstract-submission deadline is imminent on 04 April 2025.

Looking forward to seeing you in Cyprus in November.

3. Conference: UK Space Weather & Space Environment III (2025), abstract submission deadline: 18 May 2025.

From: Oliver Allanson, University of Birmingham, <o.d.allanson at bham.ac.uk>

Subject: Abstract Call: UK Space Weather & Space Environment III (2025) [18 May Deadline].

Abstracts are warmly invited from all national and international colleagues for UK Space Weather & Space Environment Meeting III: Global Challenges in Understanding the Space Environment & Space Weather at Solar Maximum, 8-11 September 2025, The Cutlers’ Hall, Sheffield, UK https://iop.eventsair.com/ukswse2025

This will be a hybrid conference that allows for full participation and presentation both in-person and online.
Abstracts can be submitted here https://iop.eventsair.com/ukswse2025/abstract-submission
It is possible to submit more than one abstract.

With a UK core, this meeting will be outward looking, where we very much welcome international participation. This is the third in a series of an ongoing meetings based around space weather and the space environment. The meeting’s multinational collaboration is at the heart of enhanced understanding of, and resilience to space weather and the Earth’s space environment.

The long-term purpose of this developing series of UK Space Weather & Space Environment Meetings is to bring together space safety scientists, engineers, forecasters, end-users, and policy makers across the various UK interests and activities. This year’s meeting will focus on the global challenges in understanding our space environment and space-weather impacts at solar maximum, as well as in seizing opportunities to drive further advances going forward.

Abstract deadline and other key dates are currently as follows:

Abstract submission opens: 1 April 2025
Abstract submission deadline: 18 May 2025
Programme confirmed: 15 June 2025
Early registration deadline: 18 July 2025
