2.     JOB OPENING:  Postdoctoral Positions at Queen Mary University of London
From: Suzanne Winter (s.winter(at)ucl.ac.uk)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, talented Software Engineer to join the SMILE project at the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory - MSSL) of University College London (UCL).
The post holder will be a member of the MSSL SMILE team. SMILE (Solar Wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer) is a joint mission of the European Space Agency and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) that will study the interaction of the solar wind with the Earth’s magnetosphere. In early 2025 the mission will take into space four instruments, two of them being imagers, the Soft X-ray Imager (SXI) and the UV Imager (UVI), and two measuring the conditions of the particles and magnetic field in situ in the Earth’s magnetosheath and in the solar wind. SXI will take X-ray images of the dayside magnetosphere with the purpose of studying its response to solar wind variations in a totally new way. The purpose of the job is to develop software for the production and archive of SXI data products. It would be desirable for the candidate to have an appreciation of the issues involved with solar-terrestrial relationships and interest in space weather. The post is offered for 18 months in the first instance, with the possibility of further extension during the operational phase of the SMILE mission, which is nominally due to last three years. To apply and for further details and job description go to https://www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/search-ucl-jobs/details?jobId=11781&jobTitle=Software%20Engineer .

Closing date: 17 July 2023

3.     JOB OPENING: Postdoctoral Researcher in Space Physics - Space Research Centre PAS (CBK PAN), Warsaw, Poland
From: Pawel Swaczyna (pswaczyna(at)cbk.waw.pl)

Space Research Centre PAS (www.cbkpan.pl/en/) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher who will conduct research on the outer heliosphere and the very local interstellar medium as part of the project entitled “The outer heliosphere and its interstellar surrounding revealed in neutral atom and pickup ion observations” led by Dr. Pawel Swaczyna. The successful candidate will study interstellar neutral atoms, pickup ions, and energetic neutral atoms by developing related models and comparing their predictions with available observational data from space missions.

The application deadline is July 16, 2023. For more information about the position, required qualifications, and application details, please see https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/113111

For questions, please email Dr. Pawel Swaczyna at pswaczyna@cbk.waw.pl
